We have created who we are now and who we will become
2nd September 2018 Sarah

Last week I wrote a short post asking the question – do we create who we are, what we do ?

This question came into my mind after listening to Dave Goggins, an ex-navy seal,  where he talked about the fact that he had created the person who he is now by pushing through fear and constantly stepping outside his comfort zone.

This weekend I organised a seminar to help people succeed in their goal of taking on one of the toughest mountain ultra runs in the world – the Ultra Trail De Mont Blanc. It was a beautiful sunny day – the first sunny day for months – and these people where focused enough on creating their own success that they had dedicated a day of their weekend to learning how to succeed.

Both these events drove me to expand on last week’s post.

Thank you to those who commented on the post, which unanimously agreed that we create who we are today.

This assertion implies that we are 100% responsible for everything in our lives – where we live, who we are with, what we spend time doing, how heathly we are, how wealthy we are etc. Isn’t that a scary thought – because if we are responsible for everything we create, then we can’t blame anyone else !? We can’t blame our boss for us hating our job – we created and chose to be in the job, we can’t blame our genes if we are overweight, we have created our health, we can’t blame the government for us not having enough money, we have created our income from the job we do, the training we have invested in, the risks we have taken. Scary thought isn’t it ? We have to OWN the fact that we are responsible for everything we have created in our lives.

It is also liberating to think that we have complete control over everything we have created, no one else is responsible. Wow – how does that make you feel ?

And take that a step further – if we have created everything in our lives today, that means we are responsible for creating everything in our lives tomorrow, next month, next year, the next 5 or 10 years. So if you have a dream of where you want to be in 10 years time, the great news is that you have the power to create it – how does that make you feel ? It makes we incredibly excited, but it is also a bit daunting, because if I am responsible for creating who I will become, what I will be doing, what I will have, then along with that comes the responsibility to do it…………………

Lots to ponder – is it liberating or terrifying ?

Have a great week enjoying what you have created and more importantly creating your future.

Neil………………….
